Characteristics of this journey/holiday
Day by day
Day 1 L‘Ile Rousse
Arrival at L’Ile Rousse in the ideally located hotel with fine sandy beach. Welcome drink with briefing and it’s time for the first dinner.
Day 2 Coastal walk
The cozy coastal walk allows an easy start into the hiking week. Between L’Ile Rousse and Calvi, you’ll hike up to Calvi with stunning views of the spectacular coast, its azure blue sea and hidden coves. Bring your swimwear and enjoy a swim in the sea. The water temperatures are usually very pleasant. In Calvi, after a tour of the city, you will return to L’Ile Rousse by coastline.
(Walking time about 4 hours, only small height differences)
Day 3 The mountain villages of Balagne
Today’s circular hike leads through the picturesque villages of Balagne. Aregno was once known for its many orange groves. Today, we encounter mostly almond trees on our hike. Each village has its own history and character, so short stopovers are very important to talk to the locals and learn a little more about the colorful past. The Romanesque church of La Trinité is made of polychrome granite and its frescoes make us stop on the way to the medieval village of Cateri. One of the oldest olive trees of the island stands here – the tree is said to have been there for 2000 years
(Walking time: 4 1/2 hours, +/- 550 m)
Day 4 Between mountains and the sea
Corsica has a great variety of two-thousand- meter mountains along its entire length of about 184 kilometers! This day does not lead so far, but always offers a magnificent panorama of the striking peaks of the mountains and the deep blue sea deep down on the coast. We hike by the villages of Corbara, Pigna and Occiglioni with Baroque churches and wash houses.
(Walking time: 4 hours, +/- 450 m)
Day 5 Corsica seen from the sea
Just in front of the hotel there is the jetty for today’s discovery day by boat! Seeing Corsica from the sea, offers its own charm. Through the crystal-clear water, the schools of fish can be seen well and with a little luck maybe even the dolphins show up. The boat trip takes 4 hours along the coast with a swim stop at the most beautiful places and loneliest bays south of L’Isle Rousse. In the afternoon, there is still time for a little shopping through the old town streets of L’Isle Rousse.
Day 6 On the „customs-officers’” path
Today’s hike follows the tracks of the customs officers who patrolled the coast south of Calvi. A breathtaking coastal landscape opens up on the way to the peninsula La Revellata. It is classified as a nature reserve and allows a particularly high biodiversity of plants. Especially in spring, the variety of flowers offers a wonderful color palette which often makes you stop during hiking. In the bay of Oscelluccia it gets steeper and the rocky coast comes more and more into the foreground.
(Walking time: 5 hours, +/- 300 m)
Day 7
The last day of hiking leads through the hinterland of Saint Florent. The mountain villages lying here are characterized by high belfries and church facades from the 12th and 17th centuries. Here, the herds of animals, such as goats, sheep and cows, roam freely and surprise at many bends with their sudden appearance. The panorama is again impressive both to the mountains and to the sea, especially since the view of the Cape of Corsica is majestically in clear weather.
(Walking time: 5 hours, +/- 300 m)
