Day 1
Beaune is the wine capital of Burgundy.
Day 2 Beaune – Chassey-le-Camp 29 km
In the morning you will visit this cultural wine capital, with its famous Hôtel Dieu the ancient hospice, a 15th century masterpiece of gothic art, built after the Hundred Years War. You are leaving for some of the most famous wine villages in the world, Pommard, and Mercurey. Historical monuments, such as old village ‘Lavoirs’, typify this area
Day 3 Chassey-le-Camp- Buxy 32 km
Today you will explore the vineyards of Rully before arriving in Givry. Beginning in Givry, the cycle route follows the path of the former railway line.
Its 20.5-km section south into Saint-Gengoux-Le-National traverses a multi-faceted landscape composed of forestland and vineyard-clad hillsides showcasing the area’s rural architecture, including “cadole” stone shelters, “lavoirs” and fountains.
Day 4 Buxy – Cluny 32 km
Today you will explore the Côte Chalonnaises that lies between the foothills of the Morvan Mountains and the valley of the River Saône.
The Côte Chalonnaises are a perfect geographical bridge between the famous wine-growing areas of the Côte de Beaune to the north and the Mâconnais to the south. This area is no less distinguished with its own array of famous appellations. At Comartin you can see the magnificent château and it’s garden before you follow the cycle route to Cluny.
Day 5 Cluny – Macon – 27 km
Cluny is a very important place with its Abbey that was one of the biggest in Europe until the 16th century. Cluny and Saint Philibert are two of the 250 Romanesque churches. You continue by gently cycling along the cycle route to Macon, an important wine producing area.
Day 6
Time to visit Macon and then way
back to Beaune by train (1h20). End
